Sorting It Out
I think instead of excuses and a long explanation about where I’ve been, I’ll just sum it up like this: I’ve been busy, bitches!
Have I mentioned that moving is a lot of work? And we have a lot of stuff? So, I’ve been a cleaning, unpacking and sorting machine for the last few weeks.
Then there are those few, small, not-time-consuming-at-all things to do around the holidays. Like making lists, and writing and sending like a hundred thousand cards, and shopping, and baking, and decorating and trying not to stab other Christmas shoppers.
And? Self-improvement is very time-consuming. I’ll spare you the boring details, but basically I’m trying to spend more time doing healthier/productive things and less time doing things that aren’t.
It’s no secret that I spend a lot of time online and I’m ok with that. But, it’s kinda like watching TV. You make time for the shows that interest you, and drop the ones that don’t. So I’ve been (and am still) making some decisions and trying to get more organized around not only how I spend some of my time online but also who I follow on twitter and which blogs I read.
I realize I’m not alone in this as I constantly see tweets from others about how full their google reader is. There are just so many good blogs out there to read and awesome people to follow on twitter.
My typical response when I get followed on twitter or get a comment on my blog is to go check them out. I’ll follow them back, check out a post or two if they have a blog and add them to my reader. I try to never judge a blog based on just the last few posts, and it takes a while to get to “know” someone just like in real life.
So far, this is a good system. But the maintenance is where it falls apart. I get lazy about going back and deleting people/blogs. Or I forget to add the blogs I like to my blogroll. Or my system gets interrupted and I add the person on twitter but never get to their blog. Which is why I’m frequently going, “Oh, they have a blog?” about someone I’ve been following for 6 months.
Anyway, I’m probably always going to be a little behind because that’s just how it goes, but having some sort of system will keep it from feeling like utter chaos.
And I mean both my blog and my life.
PS. I have a bloggy facebook profile now and we should be friends. It’s bloggy not because I don’t want you guys to know my not-so-secret identity, it’s because I’m making a concerted effort to keep my other profile to family and close/old friends (and hopefully small), and to keep my (extended) family separate from the blog stuff.

Being busy is a good and healthy thing. I think we all agree on that one. It’s okay to not blog when you’re busy (I say this partly to cover my own ass :p)
But my problem is that I don’t read enough blogs. I keep telling myself to go out and find another one, but I’m just stuck on about five and thats all.
I mean, I can sometimes drift around and read other blogs but I only *really* follow about five.
Is that wrong?
Yes, I totally know how this is… I never have gotten to do twitter that much. I mean I have an account and use it sometimes but really – I don’t tweet so much. And lifes pretty time consuming
And so is blogging and you cant do everything!
