Do you know where we put the …?

Holy crap, moving is a lot of work.

After a week and a half in the new place, we’re “functional” but that’s about it.  By functional, I mean there’s soap and shampoo in the shower and we can usually locate clean towels and underwear.  I can cook easy things that don’t require fancy pots or utensils. There are more things out of boxes than in them. But, not many of our belongings have made it to their permanent residence in the house yet.

In our last place we were literally bursting at the seams.  Space was kind of tight when it was just me, and then when Jerrad moved in and we got engaged (umm, in case my parents are reading this we totally got engaged first and then he moved in) he brought a two bedroom apartment’s worth of furniture and belongings with him.  We had a small, not weather-proofed shed for storage, but there was clutter literally everywhere.

Clutter drives me absolutely insane.  I know I talk a lot about being lazy, because it’s true, but I’m also pretty OCD.  Yes, you can be both of those things at the same time, trust me.  I dream of closets that have clothes organized by style, color and size and alphabetized pantries.  I’m that person that actually moves furniture to vacuum underneath it.

You know, when I feel like it.

Anyway, we both agree that we own a lot of junk that could be sold or donated, and that paring down our stuff is an important first step in a long distance move.  So, even though we’ll only be here about 6 months, I’ll still be sorting and organizing everything we own and hanging pictures on the walls.

It’ll be a lot of work, but “making a home” is actually my job now.  I get paid for it and everything.

Besides all this work hopefully making an eventual big move easier, we really want this place to feel homey and we want to enjoy the time that we have left living in this area. I don’t think we realized until we left just how depressing living in that tiny, poorly insulated and impossible to clean house was.  It had to be contributing to us being so.. stagnant over the last two years.

Anyway, I have lots more to say about how awesome our new house is – with some pics even – and other topics, but it’ll have to wait.  I have unpacked boxes staring at me.

That is totally one of the reasons I don’t clean. Because when I do I go nuts.
