It’s My Birthday…Yay!
No, not today. Our new wedding day! November 17. Yes, much earlier than March 29. And yes, I am probably dooming myself to a life of combo birthday/anniversary presents. Or, as Jerrad said, “if I happen to forget, I am REALLY screwed”. I know that’s right.
Whatever, he won’t forget. This is a man who gets me flowers on the third of every month because that’s when our first date was. He is that sweet. And before you make fun of me, jealous bitches, know that I fully expect that to stop. Probably now that I have a ring.
Why the change in date (and lack of daily blogs whining about planning)? Well, Jerrad and I sat down to really, really talk about the details. Details like the guest list, the flowers, the attendants, the photographer, the cake, the place for the reception, the catering (or not), the DJ/band, the wedding favors, etc, etc, etc.
And you know what? It totally sucked, it was not fun in any way, and we realized we don’t want to do ANY of it. And I don’t mean we don’t want to do it in a Cathy’s-going-to-make-fun-of-everything way. We really don’t.
We just want to be married. The rest of that stuff is so unimportant to us. No matter how small we tried to keep the guest list, no matter how simple the ceremony and reception, it felt like we were wasting money. Seriously, like thousands of dollars. Umm, that we don’t have.
So, the new plan, suggested by Jerrad and heartily approved of by me, is a semi-formal, family-only ceremony. Followed by a simple, family-only going out to dinner thing.
No reception, no tiered wedding cake, no cake-cutting, no bouquet-throwing, no cheesy “first dance”, no macarena, nothing!
Yes, you read that right. Family only.
Umm, so, now, I’m, umm, trying to figure out a nice way to uninvite, well, all of you, and there really isn’t one. Except to re-invite you to something else that has not been determined yet.
Meaning, sometime, probably after football season, we are going to have a “we got married” party. This one will be friends only, and really laid back and fun. We are thinking BBQ, beer, wine, ice-cream cake, music – probably from a CD player, not a band or DJ. Unless anyone knows a really cheap one? We’re not sure of the date or where yet. Someone’s house? outside at a park, with a covered thingie and BBQ pits? Renting a place? We’re certainly open to ideas…
